"I have a number of suggestions that should help us understand the anomaly" - Boso Ta

Overview

Anomalies are shimmering, semi-transparent distortions in space which can be found using the long range scanner mode (purple ping). They have a repulsive field around them meaning the ship's boost or travel mode is required to enter them.

Upon a player ship touching the anomaly, it will be transported to a random anomaly in a different sector. Note that this anomaly is most likely not linked to the same anomaly the player entered from so that traveling back through the anomaly is not likely (although flying through the destination anomaly multiple times will eventually return the player to the original anomaly).

Applications

As the destination of an anomaly is another anomaly chosen at random it is possible to use them to uncover large amounts of sectors with minimal effort simply by flying back through the destination anomaly.

Notes

*Some plot missions set specific outputs for anomalies

**It is technically possible to fly through an anomaly, appear at another and upon flying into that anomaly return to the original but it is random so bi-directionality isn't assured for general anomalies.
