In-game Description

The Gamma HEPT was developed as a cutting-edge weapon and represents a pioneering advancement in plasma weaponry. This weapon epitomises the fusion of innovation and practicality, designed to provide unparalleled firepower in the unforgiving depths of space. Drawing upon the fundamental principles of plasma manipulation, the Gamma HEPT projects a torrent of searing energy spheres with devastating force.

While future iterations on this same design improve and refine the concept, this early version is perhaps the most important. It marks the point at which the balance of power and reliability was such that it became a truly formidable weapon as opposed to a purely experimental one.

Tactical Overview

The Gamma HEPT (High Energy Plasma Thrower) is a weapon characterized by its extremes. It offers extremely high firepower for a small weapon and equally high heat generation, limiting the damage it can deliver until it overheats. However, it also has an exceptionally fast cooling speed, at 2.5 times faster than most other weapons, resulting in a quite respectable sustained damage output.

With its high DPS and unusual heat and cooling setup, it is reliable for blasting medium-sized targets and delivering relatively impressive sustained DPS against capital ships.

One of the Gamma HEPT's unique features that has been brought back from X-BTF, the recoil that shakes the entire ship, makes it difficult to use against small targets. Combined with the slow tracking speed, it struggles to keep the barrels on target.

The weapon comes in two iterations: one for the sandbox and one restricted to a scenario in Timelines, with the latter being much more powerful.

 

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

- Requires completion of certain Timelines mission

- Can only be fitted to Cutlass and X-Shuttle

- Requires player-owned ship production for mass deployment

- Recoil shakes the ship, reducing accuracy of all mounted guns.

- Very bad heat efficiency

- Slow tracking speed
