2C - Remote System Location (RSL)

Last modified by ketraar on 2023/08/15 17:25

Description Summary

Systems can be very large, but travel within them is often confined to the areas around gates. In some cases, Trans-Orbital Accelerators can make it feasible to travel between sectors within systems, but placing those is a major undertaking. Vast swathes of many systems therefore remain unexplored because of the impractical amount of time it would take to reach these Remote System Locations. Factions or Corporations may see potential in investing in expansion to these locations, whether it be to find new resource deposits, or to reach planets, or moons, that would otherwise be too far away to exploit.

Prototype technology, such as the Low Frequency Locator and the Interplanetary Drive System, are rumoured to allow the quick traversal of these long distances. The Explorers Guild is known to pay generously for information about newly discovered Hyperspeed Access Points, leading to these Remote System Locations.

Detailed Info

There is a maximum amount of possible Remote System Locations. From the this amount of possible location almost half are available to be found, which ones are available for any playthrough is defined randomly.

RSL look like their parent System but have their content (Asteroids, goodies) be defined randomly. Should a RSL be taken over by NPCs the station that will be placed are also somewhat random, but based on a predefined "pool" that may be tied to the race that takes over. If the player takes over no stations are placed.
