There are many ways in which you can trade to make money, weather its manually trading in your current ship, ordering your other ships to trade, or using the various ship commands to automate trading.
1 Manual Trading
Using you own personal ship, you can fly to stations buying and sell wares. There are also a number of tools available to improve on this.
To start with, it will help if you are flying a trade ship, like a TS, or at least a ship with a decent sized cargo hold.
The basics of making a profit from trade is to buy wares at low prices, and sell them at high prices. You can view wares in your encyclopedia, where it will detail the minimum and maximum prices for the ware as well as the average. Buying wares that are below the average cost, and selling them above will always guarantee a profit.
The most valuable tool for trading is the Trading System Extension, this is an upgrade for your ship, and when installed you can view the stock level and price of the wares at stations without docking. To view the prices in other sectors, you need to have some asset in there as well, ie a Satellite, Ship or Station. So deploying Satellites around your local area can help you finding trade deals.
Once docked at a station, you will be able to access the Trade Menu, this is where you can buy and sell wares.
