Encyclopedia Description
Superhighways connect Sectors within the same System. They operate at highly accelerated speeds so leaving them during transit is not possible. They have opened up inter-sector travel to commercial mass-traffic without the need for stasis chambers or unwanted aging effects on travellers.
Overview
Superhighways are a means of moving between sectors while staying within the same system (such as between the Earth and the Moon). Superhighways are important for trading scripts as transiting a superhighway does not count as a "jump". Like Highways superhighways take time to move the player from point to point, however, unlike highways superhighways cannot be left mid-journey. Additionally like highways superhighways impart momentum to player ships and allow for coasting.
Superhighway entrances have a blue glow and taper inwards where superhighway exits have an orange glow and curl around the exit.
Superhighways feature orange blobs along their length, these do not fulfill any functionality in X4 and it is not required to try and avoid them like in X Rebirth.
Notes
*Super Highways often, but not always, occur in pairs to create a bidirectional system
